The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is an intergovernmental organisation working to strengthen national capacity and regional solidarity so Pacific nations can manage, control, and develop their fisheries now and into the future.

We are primarily located in Honiara, Solomon Islands, working with 17 member nations that include Australia, the Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

Since our inception in 1979, we have facilitated regional cooperation that is in line with our vision – “our people enjoying the greatest possible social and economic benefits from the sustainable use of offshore fisheries and resources”. Through our work and presence in the region, Pacific countries benefit from the sustainable fishing and consumption of tuna – worth over $3 billion US dollars a year and an essential resource to many people.

 

Our High Level Advice Division is now looking for a full-time GESI (Gender Equality Social Inclusion) Advisor to join our team working out of Honiara, Solomon Islands on a three year contract. The objective of this role is to provide timely and relevant technical advice and assistance, undertake research, analytical work and capacity building initiatives on Gender Equality, Diversity and Social Inclusion to inform the Secretariat, Members, and the Pacific tuna fisheries sector.

Make the ultimate sea change! You will be working out of beautiful Honiara, with ample opportunities to travel to all 17 members nations and make a real difference in the Pacific.

Your key duties will include, but will not be limited to:

Organisational Strengthening and capacity building in the areas of Gender Equality, Diversity and Social Inclusion in the Secretariat;

Building capacity, knowledge and provide information for Members;

Provide policy advice for Gender Equality, Diversity and Social Inclusion integration into fisheries policies, plans and strategies;

Undertake research and assessments; and

Contribute to policy briefs and other media and information products;

You will also implement programs at the institutional, national and regional levels aimed at advancing Gender Equality, Diversity and Social Inclusion of marginalised groups that will achieve measurable progress.

To be successful in this role, you will be a highly approachable individual with a winning personality! Your highly developed interpersonal and communication skills will ensure you can work in a multi-functional environment and team while developing strong working relationships with stakeholders of various cultural backgrounds, including Non-Government Organisations, Government Employment Agencies, and the fishing industry itself.

Our ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in gender studies or a relevant social discipline such as sociology or development studies. Moreover, you will have extensive experience in an advisory role with a specialisation in Gender Equality, Diversity and Social Inclusion.

It is also deemed essential that you have demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of policies and programmes in Gender Equality, Diversity and Social Inclusion and mainstreaming these in organisational activities.

Please note: Full vaccination against Covid-19 is a mandatory requirement for this role. Whilst not essential at the moment, applicants who have had their booster are preferred.

You will receive a competitive salary package circa US$91,179 – $126,659 (tax-free, for citizens of most countries), commensurate with your skills and experience.

This includes superannuation, paid at 7.5% into either a nominated fund or an additional cash supplement. We reimburse all reasonable medical, dental, and optical expenses for yourself and your dependents. Insurance coverage is also available for personal accidents, life, medical & repatriation. COLDA and a location allowance is also included.

Education for dependent children is reimbursed at 75% of tuition fees (Conditions apply). If your dependent child is studying overseas, paid school travel may be available for you or your child to visit each other once a year.

Relocation expenses will be paid, with an establishment grant paid on arrival in Honiara and accommodation assistance also available.
