TEAM SOLOMON

Vacancy: Media & Communication/IT Manager

The National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) / Pacific Games Association of Solomon Islands (PGASI) is the Games Member Association of the Pacific Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games. Team Solomon is the combined team of Coaches, Athletes, Managers and Entourage from many Solomon Islands National Federations who compete at these multi-sport games.

NOCSI role is to establish an effective & competent leadership team to lead Team Solomon through their games campaign.

A Media & Communication / IT Manager (M&C/IT), who report to the Chef de Mission (CdM), are appointed by NOCSI/PGASI to oversee the entire game’s campaign.

Key leadership roles are identified to meet the administration, management and performance services needs of the members of Team Solomon. Each role has a pre task, during and post games function and responsibility.

PURPOSE

  • To develop a media and communications / Information Technology plan with strategies that effectively engage local media, stakeholders, and the community:
  • Maximise coverage of the preparations and performance of Team Solomon Islands in the lead up and during the games
  • Engage NFs and media houses in gaining support of the Team Solomon Islands and raise the profile of the brand and athletes.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist the Team General Manager with organizing and coordinating VIP visits to the village:
  • Develop the Team Solomon Islands Handbook:
  • Be the key contact for organising Athletes/Officials for Media interviews:
  • Organise Team photographs session for Team Solomon Islands
  • Liaise with media personnel attending the Games;
  • Promote the release of Team Solomon Islands final names, uniforms and other key milestones;
  • Produce a newsletter quarterly (in the years leading up), then monthly (last 6 months before the games), then daily (during the games);
  • Oversee all social media, website and other platforms for consistency, accuracy and in line with social media policy;
  • Review all content shared on Team Solomon Islands platforms for consistency, accuracy and in line with social media policy;
  • Development and implementation a social media policy for all Team Solomon Islands;
  • Conduct media training sessions for GMT, sports and athletes;
  • Manage risk in media associated with poor performance, disciplinary or behaviour matters
  • Coordinate with the Team support manager on all functions.

Undertake other duties as may be directed by the TGM

COMIMITMENT

  • The Candidate must make a commitment to attend all meetings as requested
  • Must be available for the entire duration of the games campaign
  • Must abide by the team code of conduct and set an example for other members of Team Solomon

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Journalism & Communications and Information Technology Management
  • Qualifications in events, sponsorship, branding, social media.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Strong ethical standards and be absolute trustworthy;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing media, communication & marketing plans;
  • Evidence of approach towards a values driven and energetic team culture;
  • Personal and professional integrity and accountability;
  • Highly developed work ethic and energy level;
  • Solution focused, action orientated, adaptable, and can work in a team environment;
  • High level communication skills (including interpersonal, written, negotiation, and representation)

  • A comprehensive understanding developing media releases, hosting press conferences and the workings of media at sport events;
  • Strong links to media houses and other organisations;
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in similar role;
  • Previous Games and elite level competition experience highly desired.
