INDEPENDENCE DAY MESSAGE 2021
From the Office of the Opposition Leaders, Opposition MPs, their constituents and families, and Staff of the Opposition Office;
To His Excellency, the Governor General, Sir David Vunagi and Lady Vunagi,
The Chiefs Justice, Sir Albert Palmer and Wife,
The Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare and wife,
Ministers of the Crown and their families, Provincial Government Leaders, Church Leaders, Community Leaders heads of Foreign Missions to Solomon Islands, Leader and Members of Non-Government Organisation and Civil Society Organisations, Youth ,Women and Children and fellow Solomon Islanders;
On the 7th of July this Year, we will have another occasion to celebrate 43 years of our country‘s statehood as an independent and sovereign nation .
The independence Day‘s celebration is a time in the annual calendar for citizens to stop and reflect on the journey since independence.
Our country is truly blessed having being endowed with rich and a colourful diversity.
Our different ethnic groupings, languages religions and rich cultures and traditions no doubt provided the platform for our being one people and family coexisting harmoniously for the last 43 years as independence Solomon Islands.
This short history of our nation should be appreciated by all us.
Lest we forget, the occasion would not have been arisen if not for our forefathers and their wisdom and foresight.
We must therefore take time also during these festivities to pay tribute to their bravery and patriotism which demand our respect and honour .
Our forefathers are our statesmen, woman and our heroes.
As we look ahead let their legacy be the radar I our different works of life and callings in leadership in government ,churches communities, tribes clans and in our owns families so that we can truly fulfilled their vision in satisfying their yearnings and aspirations of our people.
As we mark this year’s independence anniversary through our reflections let us continue to work together toward giving effect to the principles and values upon which our nation was founded.
The journey over the last 43 years has not been easy .
We have matured as a country yet struggled both socially and economically and indications are that the road ahead will not be easy .
With lessons learnt, we must take any challenges that come our ways with humility and seek proper direction as to how deal with our problems.
May this year’s celebrations, also be a time when we reflect on our hardships and look to finding a better pathway for the future of our country ,and may the symbol of our country’s flags ,continue to fly higher and higher each year, as we mark this special day.
May the almighty God Bless Solomon Islands, her people, their lands, resources, friends during this 43rd independence celebrations and may he continue to bless the country in the years to come
