EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (CONSULTANCY SERVICES)
Wildlife Expert/Ecologist to support undertake review of Avifauna (Bird) species survey & study in Solomon Islands
The need for species conservation and management has been identified a priority for the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology (MECDM) outlined in the corporate plan 2021-2023.
As outlined in the Environment & Conservation Division annual Workplan 2022 under the Environment & Conservation Division (ECD), under “Output2: Coordinate and Conduct bio-research and bio-prospecting research and species assessments & document results. Activity 10: To undertake a national assessment on source (Islands & provinces, location), and geographic distribution avifuana (bird species) trade.
Purpose of the Assignment
The purpose of this consultancy is to assist the Division undertake literature review and validation of relevant avifauna or bird species data & information.
The review report should show a general status(population, distribution, threats etc) of bird species in
Solomon Islands, especially on existing data that are available.
This should guide ECD as a responsible (CITES Scientific & Management Authority) to address issues of overharvesting and other threats of bird species & their population in Solomon Islands.
Duration
60 days. Will be effective as of when the TA commences employment.
Location: ECD Office at City Centre Building in Point Cruz, Honiara, Solomon Islands.
The successful applicant will hold the following Qualifications:
Minimum educational requirement as a Bachelor of Environment Science (Major in Biology)
Master’s Degree in Environment Science by research or related disciplines
The successful applicant will possess some or all of the following relevant experience and skills:
At least five years’ experience in a scientific biodiversity or species studies, literature review on bird study or other biodiversity study.
Experience in biodiversity and species study and review of reports
Experience in writing scientific reports
Well-developed analytical and report writing skills
Advance computer skills
Desirable
Experience in biodiversity and species conservation, researches and management in Solomon Islands.
Excellent in oral and written English language
Able to work and complete task in timely manner
Easy to collaborate and communicate well with others
Physically fit and healthy to travel and handle tasks.
A consultant will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the Solomon Islands Government Procurement Manual and Financial Instructions.
