Six (6) VACANCY – Provincial Environment Officer, Level 6,1, Buala, Isabel Provincial Government.

Applications are invited from qualified person to fill one vacant post of Provincial environment officer that is currently vacant at the Natural Resources, Buala, Isabel Provincial Government.

Scope of Duties

Staff member will be responsible for organizing strategic interventions based on good governance and corporate, which maximize the effectiveness of provincial resources through the creative and often unique application of reasoned responses to new and existing challenges.

The staff member will be required to develop substantial empirical foundations using collaborative techniques, build linkages with institutions and agencies outside of the province, and leverage resources in partnership with colleagues as coordinated by the Executive.

As the highest grade in the provincial staffing classification, staff at this level is expected to maintain the highest levels of responsibility for staff, finances and resources.

Assignments include a broad range of activities requiring substantial depth of treatment of subject matter in areas that very rarely have documented previous approaches to rely on.

Specific Duties

  • Assist to coordinate the implementation of the Isabel Ridges to Reef Conservation Plan.
  • Manage and co-ordinate the day to day running of the provincial conservation office.
  • Supervise and oversee monitoring programs under-taken by the communities under the Isabel Protected Area Network.
  • Be responsible for the records, good management and Reporting of work activities with the provincial government and its conservation partners on project activity budget preparation, work plan and proposal writing for project funding.
  • Manage the turtle and other databases containing data on Isabel Protected Area Network community monitoring and other research activities.
  • Be the primary contact and liaison person between the provincial conservation office and partners, including the Solomon Islands Government and The Nature Conservancy.
  • To take the lead in formulating annual work plan in line with provincial policy and the provincial development plan.
  • Responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the Isabel provincial resource management ordinance.
  • Undertake regular tours and visits to development or project sites to assist with scoping of proposed new prescribed developments.
  • Lead the coordination with other provincial staff and partners by developing and delivering awareness materials and programs, providing presentations and assisting with community workshops in environment and conservation related agendas.
  • Undertake any such other activities as directed by the provincial government through the office of the provincial secretary from time to time to protect, restore and enhance the quality of the environment of Isabel provincial and Solomon Islands at large, with the aim of promoting sustainable development.

Qualification:

Graduate with Diploma or Degree in Environmental Studies.

Selection Criteria

  • Age limit: 25 years to 45 years
  • Successful performance requires the incumbent to work outside normal working hours when required, to travel within the province and outside, to quickly adopt the different cultures and situations, for successfully handle high stress situations.
  • The Environment Officer may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. These conditions:
  • Require considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain
  • Present frequent possibility of injury
  • Require long hours in isolated settings

Terms & conditions:

Salary per fortnight -$ 1,644.72

Salary per annum -$ 42,762.72

Housing Allowance -$ 50-00

Annual leave -$ 36 days per annum

Other conditions as stipulated in the relevant scheme of service and Government Regulations.
