Press Operations Supervisor
Reports To: Marketing & Communications Manager
Duty Station: Honiara
Brief Overview:
Press Operations is the function of providing service to accredited media and team media services so that the written press/photographers/social media can provide coverage of the Games.
The Press Operations Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the services and venues required to support this need.
Specific Duties
Plan for the operations of the Venue Press Centers (where applicable) as well as the Main Press Centre including the volunteer needs, the technology, and FFE of these centres.
Plan and integrate services for accreditation, and access to transport and other services as agreed to provide the accredited press.
Plan for a Games News Service (GNS) which will provide stories/background/ and photos to public/media for their consumption/use.
The GNS is the Games official news bureau/outlet intended to gather, collate and distribute news and information of the respective competitions and the GOC to the general public locally and internationally through the various news services and through all other media platforms
Coordinate the photographers pool which will be part of the GNS.
Conduct in accordance with agreed to protocols the Daily Press Conferences
Ensure coordination with the web, social media posts and other linkages are available and accurate
Undertake workshops with local press to provide pre-Games briefings
Work with Team media liaisons as required to provide support.
Experience
1.0 Must have a good working knowledge of the press in Solomon Islands and ideally across the Pacific
2.0 Must have experience in media relations/ operations
3.0 Must have local media contacts within the Solomon Islands
4.0 Preferrable experience managing volunteers.
5.0 Good working knowledge of social media
Accountability
1.0 Well planned venue press centres, main press Centre with operations that provide effective services.
2.0 Effective Games News Service providing accurate/timely and interesting and informative information/stories/photos
3.0 Act as the local media contact and assist to generate local stories in the community and nationally
Required Skills/ Experience
Excellent Communication and coordination skills, including the ability to speak in front of large groups
Previous experience with managing large groups of volunteers (i.e., church/community projects) would be an advantage
2-5 years’ proven experience in the media and media relations
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to inspire volunteers
Ability to manage multiple schedules and set goals
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Marketing or relevant
