Curriculum Development Coordinator – Solomon Islands Education System Transformation Program

The Solomon Islands’ Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD), in partnership with UNICEF as the Grant Agent and with funding support from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), is implementing a five-year System Transformation Program (2023–2027).

The program prioritizes strengthening teaching and learning, as identified in the Partnership Compact agreed by the Ministry and education partners.

These priorities are fully aligned with the National Education Strategy (2016–2030), the National Education Action Plan (2022–2026), and the newly enacted Education Act (2023)

As part of this program, MEHRD is seeking to recruit a Curriculum Development Coordinator (national position). The coordinator will lead, guide, and coordinate the implementation of Component 4: Curriculum Development, working closely with the MEHRD Curriculum team.

The role will operate under the overall leadership of the Program Coordinator and the Director of Teaching and Learning, and in collaboration with a Curriculum Technical Advisor, who will provide quality assurance and technical oversight for local writers and the coordinator.

The role will be based in MEHRD and will last for the duration of component 4 of the Education Transformation Program.

The Curriculum Development Coordinator will work collaboratively with key Teaching and Learning divisions of MEHRD to facilitate ownership of the review and development of new curriculum for primary and Junior secondary.

The coordinator will provide technical assistance to the MEHRD and Provincial Education Providers in planning, monitoring, supervision, and reporting of curriculum development activities.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, program management, or social sector development preferred.
  • A diploma in classroom teaching with over 5 years of teaching experience in schools.
  • More than 10 years of work experience focusing on areas such as national school curriculum development and review, project management, project monitoring, and report writing.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and establish networks.
  • Strong organizational, operational, and strategic skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills with experience in data collection and analysis.
  • Proficient in using computers and Microsoft Office programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, capable of meeting tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to values and principles aligned with the education vision.
