Are you a recent graduate who is looking for an opportunity to start an accounting and auditing career?

Are you passionate about seeing strong financial accountability in the Country?

Would you be confident in taking up this challenge and work with our State-Owned-Enterprises (SOEs) or Provincial Governments?

A new and exciting opportunity has opened up for new graduates who have a suitable qualification in the area of Accounting and Finance and want to gain experience in auditing.

The internship will give you vital insight into the workings of the public sector and the role of the Auditor. We can offer successful applicants the chance to equip yourself with the relevant experience and skills to seek further employment opportunities in public or private sector.

As an intern, you will support one of two teams as they undertake financial statements audits.

This work will include auditing to both IFRS and IPSAS Cash standards.

We will nominate an experienced auditor from within our team to work with you and help you to apply our audit approach.

You will be responsible for performing audit fieldwork as prescribed by our audit methodology.

This internship program will:

ensure that you put into practice the accounting and auditing standards you learnt in your degree.

help you strengthen your communication and time management; and enhance your risk assessment skills and data analysis, and critical thinking skills.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for an internship up to 6 months at the Office of the Auditor General.

We have two internships available.

These are unpaid internships, but we will provide an allowance for expenses.

To be successful in your application, you will need to demonstrate the following basic requirements:
A good understanding of the financial accounting and auditing techniques gained through your studies. You will ideally have completed a degree in accounting and finance or be ready to start your final year.
An interest in the public sector and the role of the Office of the Auditor General in providing public accountability.
Excellent IT skills, particularly Excel and be confident with other IT packages.
Good team work and communication skills, coupled with adaptable problem solving skills.
Ability to plan and manage your time to meet deadlines.
